Garden Guy, Todd Farber, is working in Sweetwater, Sugar Land, this week on a front yard renovation. He’s sharing the plants he’ll be using to create a low-maintenance, beautiful landscape that thrives in our Texas climate. Whether you're refreshing your yard or starting fresh, these plants are excellent choices for Houston-area gardens.

A tough, drought-tolerant groundcover with variegated green and white leaves. Ideal for borders and edging in both sun and shade.

2. Agapanthus (Agapanthus africanus)

Known as the African Lily, this plant produces gorgeous blue or white flowers in summer and thrives in full sun to partial shade.

3. Pentas (Pentas lanceolata)

A butterfly and hummingbird magnet! 🌸 Pentas bloom throughout the growing season in vibrant pink, red, or white shades.

4. Cleyera (Cleyera japonica) Todd’s Favorite Shrub

One of Todd’s go-to shrubs for freeze resistance and drought tolerance. It’s evergreen, grows well in sun or shade, and makes a fantastic hedge or accent plant.
