🌿 2. Remove Snow Gently

  • Use a broom to sweep snow upward off plants—don’t shake them!

  • Let ice melt naturally to avoid damaging bark or foliage.

✂️ 3. Prune Carefully

  • Trim broken branches cleanly but leave bent ones for now—they may recover.

🌱 4. Inspect Turf and Groundcover

  • Snow acts as insulation; let it melt naturally.

  • Check for frost-damaged patches and plan for aeration or reseeding in spring.

🌳 5. Check Trees and Shrubs

  • Stake leaning shrubs upright gently.

  • Cover exposed roots with soil and mulch.

🌸 6. Mulch and Water Properly

  • Replenish mulch to 2–3 inches to protect the soil.

  • Hold off on watering if the soil is soggy to avoid root rot.

7. Protect Against Future Freezes

  • Cover sensitive plants with frost cloth if another freeze is expected.

  • Wrap thin-barked trees like citrus to prevent frost cracks.

8. Be Patient

  • Some plants, like palms and tropical shrubs, may bounce back in spring.

  • Wait before removing or replacing plants—give them time!
